Today, Shklov (distance from Mogilev 35 km.), though a small, but a very attractive town in the southern Belarus. Unique historical and religious monuments, developed infrastructure will allow any tourist to have a pleasant and interesting time. Here you can visit a cafe or a city park, which is rich in legends, or take a full tour of the memorable places. It is worth telling about Shklov's Efrosinya, who became famous during her lifetime. Her story is rather sad: the young girl Agafiya fell under the wheels of a carriage during her wedding. As a result, the wedding was upset, and the failed injured bride got into a convent Soon, she discovered a gift of foresight, which brought her fame and many gifts. After her death, many came and still are coming to her grave in the town cemetery to ask for good luck in business.
The Town Hall in Shklov, which received the right of self-government in 1762, is a unique architectural object - in Belarus, units of buildings of this type have survived to our time. The building was erected at the end of the 18th century in the style of “original” classicism, and next to it were single-storey shopping malls with more than 100 benches. In those days, the lively trade in Shklov made it the seventh economic center of the GDL after Vilnius, Mogilev, Brest, Slutsk, Minsk and Polotsk, which also explains the significance of the coat of arms of the city of Shklov - the image of a hand holding a steelyard (lever scale). The emblem itself can be seen on the tower spire towering above the old clock.
It is believed that the church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul now stands on the site of the Zorich Theater - perhaps even on its foundation. The temple was consecrated in 1849. The architectural monument was built in an eclectic style: lancet windows, baroque columns.
It is believed that the foundation of the church was laid back in 1791 under the owner of Shklov Semyon Gavrilovich Zorich. But in connection with the ruin of the city economy, the construction of the church was discontinued. The uprising of Tadeusz Kostyushko in the spring of 1794 also affected the cessation of construction. After the death of S.G. Zorich guardianship over Shklov took over the wife of Paul I Empress Maria Fedorovna. The continuation of the construction iis prescribed to the Shklov Mantis Agafya Sidorova. During her life, she gave advice to enterprising people to give a part of the money from their income to her for the continuation of the construction. According to the will, after the death of Agafia in 1811, her money in the amount of 20186 rubles 33 kopecks was intended for the construction of a stone church. In 1815, the provincial architect, together with the architect Vasily Petrovich Stasov, developed a project for the construction of the church with the development of facades and estimates. The project has received the highest approval. It provided for the use of 450 thousand bricks received from the dismantling of the building of the cadet corps. Construction began in the early forties of the 19th century and continued intermittently, due to the Crimean War, until 1863. On July 24, 1863, Nikolai Zubovskiy, a graduate of the Mogilev Theological Seminary, was appointed rector of the Temple. Consecration was held on the feast day of the Transfiguration of the Lord in 1863.
Monument of landscape gardening art is Shklovsky Park. It was created at the beginning of the 20th century on the initiative of the head of the local nobility Apollo Krivoshein. At that time, the territory was protected, and it was possible to enter through the entrance gate, or the gate. In the center of the park there was was the estate of Krivoshein. However, during the Great Patriotic War, the Germans cut down trees for use as heating. Today, the park is mainly used as a playground for children, and a kindergarten and a stadium are located here. Apollon Krivoshein also became the creator of the cardboard factory, which has survived to the present and has become the Spartak factory. In the park visitors are greeted by a monument to the favorite of Empress Catherine - General Semyon Zorich. Under him, a theater, a ballet and music school, and a cadet corps were founded in the city. And Zorich delivered cucumbers grown in Shklov and salted in barrels to the court of the empress and even to France.
This is probably the only monument to a vegetable in the world. It was invented and created in 2007. The author of the city sculpture is Andrei Vorobyov, who in his work tried to reflect the image of local residents, many of whom are engaged in trade and cultivation of cucumbers. A smiling vegetable is dressed in a jacket and bow-tie, and is always in a good mood. Shklov residents know: if you plan to get rich, you just need to rub the pocket of the cucumber. It is said that this ritual brings good luck in business and financial well-being.
